About Us
Dan Boulton is currently in his 16th year as Director of Bands at Hemet High School in Hemet, California. Mr. Boulton served for 8 years as Director of Bands at Dartmouth Middle School, also in Hemet. Boulton, a native of California, is an active member of SCSBOA (Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association), NAfME (National Association for Music Education), and JEN (Jazz Educator Network). He is a performer, educator, clinician, and adjudicator in the Southern California area. He has played in jazz festivals in Montreux, Switzerland, Brisbane, Australia, Chicago, Portland, Denver, and all over California. He has performed in venues across the country with stars including, Frank Mantooth, Denis DiBlasio, Maria Schneider, Tom Ranier, Lanny Morgan, Carl Saunders, Dave Leibman, Milt Hinton, Bobby McFerrin, Richard Carpenter, Lori Andrews, Rich Matteson, Louis Bellson, and Jamey Abersold. Mr. Boulton received a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado. He also has a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Technology from Chapman University.
Symphonic Band
The Symphonic Band is a 60-70 piece ensemble that performs outstanding works in the wind ensemble/band literature, while maintaining a balance between standard repertoire and recent compositions. Membership is determined by audition.
Concert Band
Concert Band provides its musicians an opportunity to explore and perform a wide spectrum of band music. No acceptance audition is required, however seating auditions will be held early in the year.
Jazz I & II
Hemet High's jazz bands have a long history of being among the best high school jazz ensembles in the area, and offer students exciting, challenging, and rewarding musical experiences. The 2 bands perform 3-4 concerts each semester. The final performance each year is our annual Jazz Artist Concert where some of the greatest talent in the area performs with the bands.
Marching Band
The Hemet High Bulldog Marching Band energizes the HHS campus. In addition to playing at home football games, the Dogs perform for the Hemet Christmas Parade. The marching band is made up of all the students in the Symphonic and Concert Bands.
